Now that we are getting into a chillier climate, it is time to start collecting wood for the fireplace and adding more blankets to the bed. We’re in cuddle season, folks. A time when a roaring fire & keeping nice and toasty has replaced the open windows and heat-beating fans. And what better room to enjoy this cozy weather than in the bedroom?
A 2015 U.S. Houzz Bedroom Trends survey was given to over 1,500 homeowners and it has shown that the latest trend in home renovations is…the master bedroom. Yes, people are now paying more attention to the area “where the magic happens” and are turning it from a place to shut their eyes for a few hours to a sanctuary they never want to leave. In fact, one-third of those surveyed are renovating this room to make it more romantic and functional to their intimate needs.
So, what are the types of renovations taking place? If you take a look at the latest trends, you’d think they are trying to mimic what one would perceive as heaven. The color schemes are no longer geared towards strong patterns, but are drawing more towards the softer creamy white, greys & blues. And it would seem that sleeping on a fluffy cloud is the idea because decorative pillows are the way to go when it comes to a quick accessory fix (and plenty of them). In fact, 40% of those surveyed stated they have five or more pillows on their newly renovated sleeping quarters!
The overall décor trend seems to have a more contemporary, modern flair to it. Clean simple lines with minimal accents. When planning an actual room renovation, most home owners are spending their money on making the rooms larger, closets included. One-quarter of those surveyed will be spending around $10,000 on turning their bedrooms into something stylish and beautiful. But for those that don’t have that kind of cash in their budgets, don’t worry! 1 in 5 are spending half of that on just improving things with some decorating projects.
Long gone are the days of elaborately-decorated chunky bedroom sets and four-poster beds. When it comes to bedroom furniture, it’s all about keeping it simple: mirrors and platform beds. Not together, just in the same room! Other trends are ceiling fans, recessed lighting and hardwood flooring. It’s all about creating something special for you to enjoy and calming enough that you sleep like a baby, and not getting anxious by the laundry and other things on your to-do list staring at you as you try to fall asleep. No muss, no fuss.
